Q: What is the range of temperature resistance, pressure resistance and differential pressure?
A: Conventional pump heads are resistant to temperatures from -20°C to 80°C, and can be customized for low temperatures of -60°C and high temperatures of 160°C.
The conventional pump head system has a pressure resistance of 4MPa, and some pump head systems have a pressure resistance of 6MPa.
The pressure difference between the inlet and outlet is more than 25bar (depending on the viscosity)
Q: What factors should be considered in the installation of the pump? What should be considered when designing the piping system of the pump?
A: When designing, the pump is best installed under the tank, the motor base is locked with screws, and the positive pressure of the medium is input to the pump inlet, especially for the viscous medium, which has poor fluidity. Due to the small size of the micro gear pump, avoid piping or instrumentation pressing against the pump body.
The inlet pipe is as short as possible, and the inlet pipe shoube be equipped with a filter to keep the pipe clean and free of particles.
Pipe diameter requirements: For conveying viscous media, it is recommended that the pipe be larger than the pump inlet size. It should be used according to the pipe diameter recommended by our company's selection software. Sometimes the inlet is too small to meet the flow requirements.
Q: What chemicals can the micro gear pump transport?
A: Our pumps are available in different materials and a compatible material can be found for most fluids. Due to the wide variety of working conditions and fluids, we always recommend in any case to first test the pump in the circuit under the same conditions as it will actually run. If the material you transport contains dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, butyllithium, trimethylgallium, pyridine, liquid chlorine, dimethylacetamide and other media, please contact us, if conventional pump head cannot transport this media, we can make customized solutions according to the working conditions.
Q: Can the pump be used for metering?
A: All of our pumps are positive displacement pumps for metering applications. Accuracy and repeatability will depend on the pump driver/control system used and the nature of the fluid, delivery accuracy can be +/-0.5%. Please contact us for details.
Q: Which motors can be used?
A: We offer a range of different drive types including DC Brushless, DC Brush, AC Inverter, Servo, Stepper Motor, Air Motor.
Q: How can we decide the input power of the pump?
A: JONSN can calculate the required input power according to your working requirements and fluid characteristics.
Q: What is the noise value of the pump?
A: Noise levels depend on pump installation, motor speed and fluid type. The gear pump has a reference value of 55 dB at 1 meter when the pressure difference is 3 bar and the speed is 3000 rpm.
Q: Can liquids containing solid particles be transported?
A: Gear pumps cannot transport media with particles.
Q: Can the pump be reversed?
A: Preferably the direction of the arrow is marked at the factory as the standard flow direction, but both directions can be run.
Q: Can the pump run dry?
A: Our gears and bushings are made of PEEK modified and post-treated, which has a strong ability to resist dry wear. You can view our dry run test video. However, dry running should be minimized to avoid shortening pump life.
Q: Is the pump self-priming?
A: Yes, please refer to our datasheet.
Q: What is the operating temperature of the pump and motor?
A: Our conventional pump heads can operate normally at a temperature of -20 ~ 80°C. Please consult us if the temperature exceeds 80°C or other temperatures, factors such as magnets, clearances, and motor bearings need to be considered.
Q: How does viscosity affect gear pump and system performance?
A: Viscous materials can increase the volumetric efficiency of the pump and reduce the leakage of the gear pump. However, depending on the viscosity, the speed needs to be reduced to prevent overloading. Low-viscosity fluid will lead to greater internal leakage. As the outlet pressure increases, the internal leakage increases and and the volumetric efficiency decreases. When the pressure, speed, and medium temperature remain constant, the internal leakage rate will remain constant, and the flow rate will remain linear relationship. Please consult factory for details.
Q: What happens when a gas and liquid mixture is pumped through a gear pump?
A: The gas/liquid mixture will pass through the pump without any problems. The pump may appear noisier when gas is passing through. There will also be a momentary change in the load on the pump, which can be seen by fluctuations in the outlet pressure and power consumed by the motor.
Q: What are the minimum and maximum speeds allowed?
A: The data sheet for each model states the maximum speed, but these parameters are based on the water as medium. For viscous fluids, the maximum speed needs to be reduced. The minimum speed is mainly determined by the motor starting speed control, flow rate and internal leakage factors.
Q: Are Micro Gear Pumps FDA Approved?
A: Pumps are available with FDA compliant materials.
Q: What is the recommended filtering level?
A: It is recommended to install a 25 micron filter at the inlet of the pump with a filter surface large enough to avoid pressure drop and protect the internal parts of the pump.
Q: What affects pump and motor life?
A: Many factors affect service life. The key issues to consider are the number of on/off cycles, operating speed, load (pressure) and fluid contamination.
Q: What is decoupling (aka demagnetization)? Can this be used as a safety feature?
A: If the load of the pump and the torque capacity of the motor exceed the torque capacity of the magnetic coupling, the magnetic drive pump will become decoupled and will be noisy. When decoupling occurs, the motor should stop immediately for troubleshooting.
Q: How do we adjust flow rate?
A: For positive displacement pumps, the easiest way to adjust the flow is to adjust the motor speed. There is an almost linear relationship between speed and flow.
Q: What is the starting capacity of the micro gear pump?
A: Starting capability varies from pump to pump and depends on a number of factors including fluid viscosity, line size, steam pressure, speed and whether the pump is running wet or dry.
Q: What is internal leakage of gear pump?
A:The internal leakage of the gear pump means that part of the fluid on the pressure side flows back to the inlet side through the gear gap, which affects the efficiency. Internal leakage is a common problem for all gear pumps. The internal leakage of precision micro gear pumps will be relatively small, and low-viscosity fluids can pass through these small gaps more easily, so the pump is more efficient in thicker or more viscous fluids.
Q: What is cavitation?
A: Cavitation is the formation of vapor cavities ("bubbles" or "voids") in the liquid - a result of the inlet pipe diameter being smaller than the pump's flow rate. These cavities are formed by the fluid and physical properties of the pump system (available pressure, temperature, pump speed...). Cavitation is prone to noise and premature pump wear.
Q: How do I identify Jonsn pump?
A: Each pump has LOGO and laser code identification on the end face. They all identify the date of manufacture, product code and serial number (S/N). The original configuration sheet and test records can be traced through the S/N code.
